Certified B Corp Law Firm

Artington Group, which comprises Artington Legal became a certified B Corp in March 2024.  We are just the 15th law firm in the UK to become a B Corp and only the 6th law firm in London.  We were certified by B Lab, the not-for-profit behind the B Corp movement, as having met rigorous social and environmental standards which represent its commitment to goals outside of shareholder profit.

Why become a certified B Corp?

Artington Legal has always believed in driving positive social and environmental change in the legal industry, so achieving this certification was going to validate our ongoing efforts.

Becoming a B Corp was about being a Better Business and recognising that we cannot be a success to the detriment of those around us e.g., our staff, our clients, our stakeholders, the wider society and the environment. As individuals and organisations recognise this they will seek out businesses they can trust to work with.

How to become a certified B Corp?

The B Corp certification addresses the entirety of a business’s operations and covers five key impact areas of governance, workers, community, environment and customers. The certification process is rigorous, with applicants required to reach a benchmark score of over 80 while providing evidence of socially and environmentally responsible practices including those relating to energy supplies, waste and water use, worker compensation, diversity and corporate transparency. To complete the certification, the company will legally embed their commitment to a purpose beyond profit in their company articles.

What does it mean to be a certified B Corp?

Certified B Corporations are legally required to consider the impact of their decisions on all their stakeholders.  This requirement ensures that B Corps remain accountable to all their stakeholders – workers, communities, customers, suppliers, and the environment – not just shareholders. B Corp is a globally recognised certification given to organisations that can measure with full transparency and accountability their commitment to using business as a force for good.

How many companies are B Corp certified?

Artington Legal is now proud to be part of a community of 7,000 businesses globally (and growing) who have certified as B Corps.  The B Corp community in the UK representing a broad cross section of industries and sizes, comprises over 2,400 companies and include well-known brands such as The Guardian, Nespresso, FatFace, The Body Shop and organic food pioneers Abel & Cole.

Artington Legal is now part of a growing international network of purpose-driven businesses dedicated to setting a new standard for social and environmental performance. We look forward to working with this B Corp community to learn and share best practices.
